Will I need planning permission for my signs(s)?

process of preparing the relevant paper work in order to get the permission

If you put a sign up without the relevant permission, it could leave you the

We are constantly trying out new products that are arriving on the market, and recently travelled to Birmingham to visit the Sign & Digital UK show which is held once a year.

That’s the defiant message from a Hampshire hairdresser to highway chiefs who are taking legal action to get him to remove an A-board on the pavement outside his business.

Nick Martin, who is company director of Trevor Mitchell’s in Market Place, Romsey, has been at war with Hampshire highways bosses for months over the A-board advertising the hairdressers.

Hampshire County Council says Aboards on the pavements can be a hazard to the visually impaired and can obstruct people with disability problems and parents with pushchairs.

But now, after three letters asking Mr Martin, to remove the A-board, the county council has started legal proceedings.

However, Mr Martin has vowed to fight on and he’s even tried to get the backing of the Prime Minister.

Mr Martin said that he’s written to Mr Cameron and he’s now waiting for a full reply after receiving an acknowledgement from the PM’s office.

“I’ve told Mr Cameron how important A-boards are to small businesses.

Businesses are struggling and they need all the help they can get in the current economic climate,” said Mr Martin, who added: “I am very concerned about this and if Business drops, I might have to cut staff numbers.”

Mr Martin accused the county council of using a “heavy handed” pproach to force traders to comply with its rules.

“There are 21 businesses in Romsey that have been threatened with a £100 fine for putting A-boards outside their premises,” said Mr Martin.

A council spokesman said three letters had been sent to Mr Martin asking him to remove the A-board.

The spokesman said the latest states: “We have previously highlighted that Hampshire County Council recognises that A-boards are used as a means of advertising but when a number of businesses are using the same methods, this has an impact on people’s ability to move freely around the town.”

The spokesman added the highways officers would check to see if Aboards are still in place outside Romsey businesses this week and if they are, the authority’s solicitors will serve a formal notice on offenders.
